Your Path to IKO Instructor
Completing your IKO instructor certification requires two courses in sequence, plus a First Aid certification:
Assistant (ATC)

Required for ITC enrollment (not older than 2 years)

IKO Instructor Level 1 — teach worldwide at 350+ IKO Centers
Note: You must complete the Assistant course before the Instructor course. This isn’t optional — in fact, it’s an IKO requirement. Each course is 5 days of content + 1 weather buffer day.
Step 1
IKO Assistant Training Course (ATC)
The Assistant Training Course is your entry point into professional kitesurfing. It’s designed for experienced riders who want to deepen their knowledge and start working in the industry — or prepare for full Instructor certification.
Module 1: eLearning (Before Arrival)
- Kitesurfing theory and aerodynamics
- Weather, wind, tides, and currents
- Equipment knowledge and maintenance
- Safety principles and right-of-way rules
- International signs and communication
Unique: The eLearning videos were created by Tiago himself. As a result, you’ll know your instructor before you even arrive.
Module 2: In-Person Training (6 Days)
- Practical safety and rescue skills
- Assisting with student lessons
- Launch and landing procedures
- Equipment setup and tuning
- Beach management and crowd safety
- Hands-on practice with real scenarios
5 days of content + 1 weather buffer day for optimal conditions.
Prerequisites
- At least 16 years old
- IKO Kiteboarder Level 4 (Advanced) or equivalent
- Completed Module 1 eLearning

Step 2
First Aid & CPR Certification
A valid First Aid and CPR certificate is required before you can take the Instructor Training Course. Must be no older than 2 years and completed in-person (online courses not accepted).
Tiago is a certified Medic First Aid Trainer. Complete your certification right here — no need to arrange it separately.

IKO Instructor Training Course (ITC)
The IKO instructor certification course transforms you from an assistant into a fully certified IKO Instructor Level 1 — qualified to teach kitesurfing independently at any IKO Center in the world.
Important: The ITC can only be conducted by IKO Examiners — one of the highest authority levels in the IKO system.
