Does This Sound Familiar?
You’ve watched the YouTube tutorials. Perhaps you’ve taken lessons from different instructors who all told you something different. And you’ve spent sessions repeating the same crash without understanding why.
You know you could be better. You’re analytical, you’re committed, you show up. However, without a clear system, every session feels like guesswork.
The Kook Proof Method
There’s a Better Way to Progress
The Kook Proof Method was built over 20 years of teaching kitesurfing – from the sport’s earliest days in 2002 to training World Champions and certifying 300+ instructors worldwide. Instead, it’s not another collection of tips. It’s a complete system built on three pillars:
Decision-Making First
Before you touch the kite, you learn to read conditions, assess risk, and choose the right gear. In fact, this is how professional instructors are trained — now it’s how you’ll ride.
Technique That Works
Precise cues that work. Unlike contradictory advice from different coaches, but a consistent framework refined across thousands of students and every wind condition imaginable.
Real-Time Feedback
Radio coaching while you ride, plus video analysis after. As a result, you get corrections in the moment – not after you’ve repeated the same mistake three more times.
The Method That Produced World Champions
In 2007-2008, Tiago Rocha ran the Junior Kite Camp – a youth development program under escoladekitesurf.com. Four young athletes came through that program. All four became professionals. Two became World Champions.

Inês Correia
Two-time World Champion (2011, 2020). Red Bull athlete. Now runs her own kitesurfing school in Cape Verde.

Paulino Pereira
World Championship Bronze Medalist (3rd place 2016). Four-time Portuguese National Champion. Now serves on the GKA judging panel.

Gonçalo Gomes
2008 Portuguese Champion in Freestyle and Race. KSP World Tour competitor. Sponsored by Naish International.

Danilo Nacarato
Portuguese Freestyle Champion. 1st place KPWT Junior Category (Dunkerque, France). Sponsored by ABoards, Maresias, Mystic.
Clearly, That’s not luck. That’s method.
Consequently, the same systematic approach that developed elite competitors now helps riders at every level break through plateaus, build genuine confidence, and progress faster with fewer incidents.
Find Your Path
Whether you’re visiting for kitesurfing in Portugal or based here year-round, there’s a clear path forward.

Starting Out
You want to learn kitesurfing the right way from day one – building proper habits instead of dangerous ones. You’ll progress from kite control to your first rides with safety wired into every step.

Breaking Through
You can ride, but you’ve plateaued. Staying upwind is inconsistent, transitions feel sketchy, and you’re not sure what’s actually holding you back. Targeted coaching and video analysis will show you exactly what to fix.

Becoming an Instructor
You want to teach professionally and meet international standards. The instructor pathway prepares you for IKO certification with examiner-level insight into what assessors actually look for.
Real Progress, Measured
These aren’t vague promises. They’re documented outcomes from riders who followed the Kook Proof Method:
What Riders Say

Meet Your Head Coach: Tiago Rocha
Tiago Rocha has been teaching kitesurfing in Portugal since 2002 – before there were schools, certifications, or even standardized gear.
He competed at world-title level, placing 3rd at the KPWT in Brazil and 9th overall. He tested kites for Flysurfer alongside designer Armin Harich and contributed to Crazyfly development. He co-founded Bush Kiteboarding, Portugal’s first kite brand.
In 2009, he became an IKO Examiner – the person who certifies instructors worldwide. Since then, he’s certified over 300 instructors and coached more than 3,000 riders across four countries.
Common Questions
No. The method works from complete beginner through instructor certification. The framework scales — what changes is the complexity of skills you’re applying it to. The same approach that developed World Champions starts with proper kite control and safety for beginners.
Once you can water start consistently and control the kite while listening. Before that, you’re focused on fundamentals and don’t have bandwidth for verbal cues. Most students reach this stage within their first few sessions — then the radio becomes your biggest accelerator.
This is designed for people with limited water time. Therefore, the whole point is making every session count with clear objectives, efficient practice structures, and real-time feedback that prevents wasted repetition.

The method teaches transferable decision-making, not spot-specific tricks. It’s been refined across Portuguese Atlantic surf, Cape Verde trade winds, Brazilian conditions, and Swedish snow. Ultimately, you’ll learn to adapt to any conditions — that’s the skill that actually matters.
Safety-first isn’t a slogan here — it’s the first pillar of the method. Progressions are designed around sustainable advancement, not ego-driven pushing. Many students in their 40s and 50s progress faster than younger riders because they follow the system instead of skipping steps.
